Bio
Age 63 years, 1 month, 28 days Census records from 1850 and 1860 indicate he was born in New York. A stone was reported by the WPA but in September, 2006 a volunteer was unable to locate anything. Many older stones in this cemetery are broken or unreadable. The WPA records report the spelling as Elija although our family records and census indicates our ggg grandfather was Elisha. His wife Melissa was still living in 1880 in Polk County, Iowa. Note: in 2009 a photo of the tombstone was posted on the Iowa Gravestones website. Children of Elisha and Melissa Smith:: Son - Lyman Abbott Smith Son - Edmund Silas Smith Daughter - Mary Martha Smith born abt 1843, married Amos Krewson in 1859. Married Frank Minear 1871 and married S.W. (Sam) Parsons 8/19/1876. In 1880 her 4 young children are living with her widowed mother, Melissa. Son - Samuel Hedge Smith Son - Addison Fillmore "Frank" Smith Son - Otho A. Smith
