Bio

One of seven children born to Lewis G. Holcombe (1783-1860) and Clarinda Johnson Holcombe (1784-1841). The Holcombe family settled in Cass County in December 1839, south of Linden, in an area known as Holcombe's Bluff. Anderson Ferdinand Holcombe married Sarah Ann Graham on 08 June 1849 in Jefferson, Cass (now Marion) County, Texas. The 1850 U.S. Census; dated 07 November, Precinct 4, Cass County, Texas documents Anderson (as A.F.), wife Sarah, and his father Lewis Holcombe. He is indicated as a 'gunsmith'. Anderson and Sarah had no known, or documented children together. Anderson Holcombe appears on the Cass County tax rolls 1847-1851. In addition to being a gunsmith, research suggests Anderson was also a Justice of the Peace, produced an early map of Cass County, and assisted Ben Kimble in drawing the land plats for the town of Linden in 1849.
