Bio

Edward was the son of Henriette Amalie Charlotta Cornelius Dohme Rigenhardt (1804–1881) and Georg Ludwig Lewis Dohme (1798–1854) He was the first of his family to be born in the United States. He was a US Civil War Veteran Drummer He enlisted first on3 Sep 1861 at St Louis, St Louis City, Missouri, USA in the Missouri Infantry3rd Regiment, Company C. He deserted on 3 Aug 1862 at Helena, Phillips, Arkansas, USA He enlisted again on 10 Jan 1865 i as a musician in the Missouri Cavalry, 2nd Regiment, Company E at St Louis, St Louis City, Missouri, USA He married Sarah Adelia Gardner (1873–1899) on 20 Aug 1892 in Pike County, Illinois, USA. They were the parents of Arnold E Dohm (1893–1926) Louis John Dohm (1894–1962) ∼ Edward was born to George Ludwig Dohme and Henriette Amalie Cornelius in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio in 1848. He was the first in our family to be born in America. He moved from Cincinnati to St. Louis, Missouri with his mother and her second husband, Louis Regenhardt, by 1860. By 1870, he and his family were living in Carlin, Calhoun Co., Illinois. According to his military record, Edward originally enlisted for service during the Civil War September 3, 1861 in St. Louis, Missouri, Co. C, 3rd Reg., Missouri Infantry. He would have been about 13 or 14 years old at the time but the military record had his age as 21. He was a private, but was promoted to drummer September 19, 1861. He deserted August 3, 1862 at Helena, Arkansas. On January 10, 1865, Edward enlisted a second time from Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri, Co. E, 2nd Reg., Missouri Cavalry. He was 17 years old, and his step-father, Louis Regenhardt, had given his consent. His occupation was listed as musician. He stood 5'3", had blue eyes, light hair, and light complexion.
