BIOGRAPHY updated: 21 Apr 2016. Howell Simmons was born in May 1855 in Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana to Clarinda Iles, age 28, and Solomon Simmons, age 42. His father was appointed the postmaster at Hamburgh, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana in 1857. Howell Simmons married Francis A. Hodges, and they had 10 children over 20 years. After Howell died, Francis lived with daughter Lori, who married and had children with Irving William Cryer (originally from Rosepine, LA) in Texas. Howell appears on the 1900 federal census, does not appear thereafter, and his wife, Francis, is listed in 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses as a widow. Howell likely died between 1900 and 1910.
