Peter Darges, Valley County Pioneer, Rites Held Wednesday Services in the Hastings-Pearson chapel were held Wednesday afternoon for Peter Darges, 78, who died April 6, at his home in Ord. Officiating was Rev. Warren Porter. Mrs. Viola Kellison was organist and accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Doris Perry, who sang the Old Rugged Cross and The Lord is My Shepherd. Burial was made in the Graceland Ord Cemetery. Bearers were Orin Kellison, Wm. Zabloudil, John Wozab, Dan Cook, Frank Sevenker and Ray Falter. Peter Darges was born in Germany, Feb. 24, 1879. He came to the United States at the age of 15, with his brother. They lived in Scranton, Pa., for a time and later moved to Omaha. There he met Mary Vavra, and they were married Nov. 15, 1906. Mrs. Darges died Jan. 9. 1957. Their first son, William was born in Omaha, where Mr. Darges worked in a packing house and also did plumbing. In 1910 the family came to Ord, and another son, Emil, was born. Both sons survive their parents. In this community, Mr. Darges worked for the gas company owned by W.W. Haskell. Later he started his own plumbing business in which he was active until he retired in July, 1956. Mr. Darges was a runner up as the king of the Ord Jubilee celebration last July. He and his wife appeared on the pioneer float with the winners, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burdick. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Apr 11 1957, Pg 1, Col 2
