Leonard J. Kavan, 90 years, of Morse Bluff, Nebraska died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Leonard was born August 22, 1925 at North Bend, Nebraska to John R. and Emma (Nemec) Kavan. He lived at Morse Bluff until his marriage to Patricia Emanuel on June 5, 1946. They lived in North Bend for eleven years and then moved back to the farm near Morse Bluff where he farmed until retiring in 1985. He continued to live on the farm until his death. He also did concrete work for new construction. He was a construction foreman for two years when the new North Bend Central High School was built. He was a person that had to be busy at all times. He was always able to find something productive to do so there was “no sitting around to get fat.” He was a member of the Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department, St. George’s Catholic Church in Morse Bluff, Knights of Columbus Council #3736 in North Bend, District 54 School Board, and the Eagles Club. He is survived by sons, Larry Kavan, Jerry Kavan and Gene (Deb) Kavan all of Morse Bluff; daughters, Marilyn McDaniel of Morse Bluff and Bev (Alan) Ratkovec of Lincoln; sister, Wilma Vlcek of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Barbara Emanuel of Carson City, Nevada and Richard and Celine Papa of Fremont; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia who died December 22, 2015; granddaughter, Tina; grandson, Billy; five sisters; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff. The Rev. Father Jeremy Hazuka will officiate. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM with a decade of the rosary at 9:30 A.M. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery near Morse Bluff. Memorials may be directed to the family for further designation.
