Mrs. Nancy Covert Died Here Friday, Funeral on Sunday Well Beloved Woman Had Many Descendants Living Here. The hearts of hundreds of friends were saddened Saturday morning when word reached them of the death on Friday afternoon of Mrs. Nancy Covert, which occurred at her home a few miles east of Ord. Mrs. Covert had been in failing health for some time, but was able to be about her home until Wednesday, when her condition became serious and death resulted. Nancy Melvina Wigent, daughter and only child of William H. and Mira Wigent, was born Sept. 27, 1868 at Hartford, Mich., where the first five years of her life were spent. In 1873 the family moved to Nebraska, coming by covered wagon and spending two months on the trip. They settled on a farm in Springdale, and this farm is the only farm in the community still belonging to the family of the original owner. There Mrs. Covert attended rural school near her home and grew to womanhood. In September, 1884, she was united in marriage to Henry Covert, and to this union were born seven children. In 1890 the family moved to Teninah, Wash., where Mr. Covert died in 1910. In 1914 Mrs. Covert with her family of five children and two motherless grandsons returned to Nebraska and took up their residence on the Wigent farm. There with the help of her oldest son, Clinton, she raised the children to useful manhood and womanhood. Besides her own family she raised three grandsons and had other grandchildren in her home much of the time. Through all the cares and responsibilities of raising a large family, caring for her home, and in many duties that come to a farm mother, Mrs. Covert found time to answer hundreds of calls for help in sickness or whatever emergency came to her neighbors and friends. In 1930 Mrs. Covert moved to Ord and for a number of years she cared for her father during his declining years, giving him every care and consideration that her love could think of. Following his death in 1935, she returned to the farm, where she and her son, Clinton, have made their home. During the years when her health was failing she has been given loving care by her sons and daughters, who have done everything possible to make her life comfortable and happy. Mrs. Covert was a member of the Ord Methodist church of the Degree of Honor lodge, and for many years a member of the Ladies of the GAR and Rebekah orders. Left to mourn her passing are five children, Clinton, Leonard, James and Mrs. Ruth Thomsen, all of Ord, and Mrs. Velma Jacobs of Racine, Wis.; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; also a host of friends and neighbors who loved her through the years. Funeral services, with the Hastings-Pearson Mortuary in charge, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 from the Ord Methodist church. Rev. Carl McConnell officiated. Burial was made in the family plot in the Ord Cemetery. The Ord Quiz - Thur, Jul 11 1946, Pg 1, Col 3
