The Brewster (Nebraska) News, 7 May 1909: Obituary. Charles Lonides Vaught was born December 12, 1861, in Jefferson county, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Nancy Vaught, where he lived with his parents until the age of twenty-three years. During the year 1884 Mr. Vaught came west and settled in Blaine county, at first working on the George Farmer ranch near Halsey, afterwards on the famous Stem ranch and finally settling on a claim on the Middle Loup river Northwest of Dunning, where he lived until death called him. December 20, 1893 the deceased was married to Miss Carrie Perkins who survives him and mourns the loss of a loving and respected husband. On Sunday afternoon April 25, Mr. Vaught was taken suddenly ill and died in a few moments of heart failure. He leaves a wife, father, four sisters and a brother, namely Leota Westerwaudt, Newton, Iowa; Rose Cowman in Arkansas; Bessie Martin, Lark, N. Dak.; Estella Schenck, Monro, Iowa and Joseph Vaught at Fairmont, Iowa. The funeral took place at Dunning Tuesday, the remains being interred in the cemetery of that place in the presence of a large congregation of friends and neighbors who are joined by the community in general in extending sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
