Bio

Joseph Nelson Vaught, was born November 5th, 1870 near Fairmount, Iowa, and passed away very suddenly from heart failure Monday evening, about eight-thirty, June 1st, 1925. He seemed in the best of health and in his usual good spirits at the supper table, laughing and talking with his family and sister, Mrs. Estell Schenck. He has been to Monroe that afternoon. After supper, he finished his chores, then sat down to read his paper. The family missed him but thought he had retired for the night. One of his boys was having trouble with his car and he had gone to help him. When he reached him he asked what seems to be the trouble and then fell and was gone. The son picked him up, put him in the car and drove to the house calling his mother said "Prepare for the worse, Dad is gone." A doctor was called but nothing could be done. On January 12th, 1898, he was united in marriage to Miss Mila Danks. To this union six children were born, Maynard, Eveleen, Floyd, Dale, Dean, and Dorothy. All with their mother, are left to mourn a good kind loving husband and father. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Leota Westerwoundt of Newton, Iowa, Mrs. Bessie Martin of Lark, North Dakota, Mrs. Rose Cowman of Sidney, Montana, and Mrs. Estella Schenck of Long Beach, California. His father and two brothers having passed before. In the winter of 1912 he was converted and united with the Methodist Epiiscapal church at Fairmount and has continued in that faith until his death. He was a friend to the Ladies Aid, always ready to give or do his part. Joe was one who always looked on the bright side. He loved his home and was always doing something to aid to the comfort and happiness of his family. Always had a smile and cheering word for neighbors and friends. Ever ready and willing to give a helping hand and many are saying "what will we do without Joe". He has lived his entire life here, having bought the old home farm. His death came as a great loss to everyone. He will be greatly missed in the home circle. After more than twenty seven years of happy wedded life. He leaves besides his relatives, a host of friends who mourn his loss as well as his family. Appeared in Monroe Mirror newspaper, 11 June, 1925. Found on Monroe Public Library Web-Site.
