Friday Rites for John Nevrkla Funeral services for John Nevrkla were held Friday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Ord with Rev. Earl Reed officiating. Burial was in the Ord City Cemetery with the Ord Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements. John Nevrkla was born February 27, 1894 in a sod house west of Ord in Valley county to John and Frances Pokorny Nevrkla and died December 5, 1978 at the Valley county Hospital in Ord at the age of 84. John lived with his parents on the family farm west of Ord where he attended rural school. His mother died when he was very young and his father then married Marie Brazda. He was united in marriage to Jennie Kosmata August 5, 1917 at Ord. They made their home on a farm west of Ord until 1968 when they retired and moved to Ord. John was member of ZCBJ Lodge #112 for over 50 years. Survivors include one grandson, Donnie and wife, Dianne Nevrkla of Ord; two great granddaughters, Michelle and Amy; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Rolland Zulkoski of Elyria; and three foster grandchildren, Janet, Paul, and Joan Zulkoski; also one brother, Anton of Lafayette, IN; one sister, Mrs. Frances Kasal of Ord; and two half sisters, Mrs. Helen Beran of Ord, and Mrs. Mary Nelsen of Sidney. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, his wife, Jennie in 1972; one son, one infant daughter, one sister, and two half brothers.
