Bio

Bernice (Kolar) Hornak, 71, of West, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at her residence. A rosary will be recited at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Bernice was born in West, Texas, to the late Edward R. and Frances (Karlik) Kolar. She attended St. Mary's School and was a 1964 graduate of West High School. On June 1, 1968 she was united in marriage to Albert J. Hornak in West. Bernice worked in the accounting department of West Bank and Trust, now PointWest Bank for over 42 years. Prior to that she worked for Citizens Bank in Waco. Bernice was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She began her love of racing while watching Albert Jr. race and then became an avid NASCAR fan, especially cheering for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bernice enjoyed camping, working at Westfest, and going to the lake with her grandson, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Kolar Jr. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Albert Hornak Sr., of West; son, Albert John Hornak Jr. and wife, Belinda, of Lorena; grandson, Garrett Brunson; brothers, Louie Kolar and Ernest Kolar and wife, Mary; sister, Magdalen Kolar; nieces, Melinda Lucas and husband, Josh, and Catie Kolar; nephew, Ernie Joe Kolar and wife, Emily; great-nieces, Madison and Molly; great-nephews, Joel and Samuel; and many other relatives and friends.
