Bio

Irene Klausen, 89, formerly of Rockville, left to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2016, at the Country House Residences in Grand Island. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Loup City, with the Rev. Delmar Unruh officiating. Burial will be in the Austin Cemetery south of Loup City. Mrs. Klausen was born on April 8, 1926, on the family farm in Logan Township north of Loup City to Joseph and Veronica (Silver) Gembala. She graduated from Loup City High School and later married Earl Klausen of Rockville on Dec. 28, 1954, and had three children. They lived on the family farm outside of Rockville. She and her husband were members of the First Baptist Church in Loup City, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in the Sherman County Historical Society, Farm Bureau and 4-H. Irene was also a member of the Alpha Nu extension club. Her home was a family gathering place, and many fond memories exist of the long conversations around the wonderful meals, spirited card games, antique treasure hunts and adventures to the river. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her sons, Ken Klausen and his wife, Donna, from Wisconsin and Robert Klausen and his wife, Cheryl, from Rockville, and her daughter, Diane Klausen from California. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, James Gembala of Loup City; and many loving nieces and nephews.
