Bio

Barbara Kraus was born in Beiren, Germany. August 31, 1846 and died at her home near Utica, Nebraska after a brief illlness of pleural pneumonia on April 20, 1913. She came to this country in 1869 to the state of Illinois where she was married to John Scherer. To this union were born four children, three daughters and one son. In 1879 the family moved to Seward County Nebraska and settled on a farm, where they endured the many hardships of pioneer life. She united with the Lutheran Church at the age of fourteen and was a faithful member until her death.
