William M. Stafford died very suddenly at his home on route 2, Oneonta, Monday morning. Mr. Stafford has been in ill health for more than a year but was able to be up and was setting by the fire when he complained of being sick. He lay down on the bed and in a very few minutes passed out. The deceased was about 71 years of age and for about 45 years had been a member of the M. E. church. Mr. Stafford had the reputation of being "close" in his dealings but he was strictly honest and met his obligations promptly and insisted on those who owed him doing the same thing. The deceased is survived by his widow, five sons, Willie Stafford, of Hope, Ark.; C. C. Stafford, of Denton, Texas; John Stafford and R. D. Stafford, of route 5, Oneonta; and C. P. Stafford, of Oneonta; four daughters, Mrs. Maggie Herren of Oneonta; Mrs. Cora Lowry, of route 1, Oneonta; Mrs. Gussie Wilemon, of route 2, Oneonta, and Miss Jessie Stafford, of route 2, Oneonta. The funeral services were held at Antioch cemetery on Tuesday and were conducted by Rev. A. H. Walden. Wade in charge. [Southern Democrat, March 1929]
