Bio

Daughter of William Ennis Beard of Pilots Knob, Bedford County, Virginia and Almyra Parish Amsberry of Virginiam, Monongalia County, West Virginia. Wife of Perry Marvin Dady of Mason City, Mason County, Illinois; married on 15 October 1882 in Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. "Ellen Josephine Beard was born in Marion County, Iowa, near Knoxville on May 9th, 1859, the second daughter of William Ennis and Almira Parrish Amsberry Beard. Her father having died in the Civil War, she moved with her mother and step-father to Kellerton, Ringgold County, Iowa. Here she grew to young womanhood. On October 15th, 1882, she was united in marriage to Perry M. Dady. In a few days, this young couple left in a covered wagon for the prairie state of Nebraska. There they endured the hardships and joys of pioneer existence. They homesteaded three and a half miles southwest of Mason City. Early in life she united with the church and remained a consistent Christian to the end, living her religion. Soon after coming to Nebraska she united with the Baptist Church at Mason City. She changed her membership to Broken Bow in 1920, where she retained it until her passing. To this union were born eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom were present at her funeral. They are Perl and Harry of Santa Ana, California; Otis of Ansley, Nebraska; Guy of Broken Bow, Nebraska; Jennie Runyan of Newton, Iowa; Monna Fisher of Costa Mesa, California; Myrtle Brand of Mason City, Nebraska and Lorene Nelson of Seward, Nebraska. She had six brothers and four sisters of whom five survive her - Mrs. Mary Lesan of North Dakota; Mrs. Sophia Dady of Clearfield, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Runyan of Mason City; D.D. Beard of Mt. Ayr, Iowa and Allen Trobee of Oregon. Mrs. Dady was a faithful wife, loyal and true, a devoted, loving mother and a good neighbor, giving her services willingly and efficiently wherever needed when ever possible. Funeral services for this pioneer mother were held from the Mason City Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Parker Smith of Raveena, in charge. Interment was made in the Mason City Cemetery."
