GREELEY — Lawrence W. “Bill” Thompson, 85, of Greeley, formerly of Omaha, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at the Greeley Care Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Father Anthony Thekkekara will officiate. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors provided by the Charles E. Martin Post 186 of Greeley. T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home of Greeley is in charge of arrangements. Bill was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Greeley to Clifford and Emeline (Kinsella) Thompson. He was raised in Greeley and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949. In February 1951, Bill entered the U.S. Navy and served as a post office clerk during the Korean War. Following his discharge from in 1955, Bill attended barber school in Omaha. He barbered for nearly 20 years at Offutt Air Base and then went to work for Mutual of Omaha as a security guard until his retirement. For the past three years Bill made his home in Greeley. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed the horse races and playing cards. Survivors include one brother, Lefty Thompson of Greeley; one sister, Helen Zahm of Omaha; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Thompson of Greeley and Catherine Thompson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Rosella Thompson; an infant brother and sister, and four brothers, Whistle, Jerome, Frank and Gerald.
