Bio

Opal Oakes McLaughlin was born to Charles and Effie Davis McLaughlin in Jackson, Jackson County, Ohio on 9 June 1906. Her paternal grandmother's maiden name was Oakes. The family subsequently moved to Columbus, Ohio where father Charles was employed as a plastering contractor, Her mother died in 1919. Opal married Emil Carl Engel on July 7, 1924 in Menominee, Menominee, Michigan. In 1930 they were living in Appleton, Wisconsin and by 1940 they had moved to Columbus, Ohio. They did not report any children in those years. Her husband Emil's obituary did not mention any children.
