"Robert E. Courtney, 81 years, of Lynch, NE died Monday, December 14, 2015 at Fremont Health Medical Center in Fremont, NE. Robert was born June 29, 1934 in Lynch, NE to Charles and Edna (Bryant) Courtney. He was born and raised on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1953 to 1957. Robert married Marvene May on June 24, 1958 in Lynch. Robert was a farmer and rancher on the family farm north of Lynch. The couple wintered in Yuma, AZ for 11 years and in the summers they spent time at their Courtney Sleepy Hollow River Resort. Robert enjoyed riding Honda Goldwing Motorcycles and traveled in all 50 states. He loved to go to town for coffee and meet up with his neighbors and friends, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and card playing. He also liked to go boating, to read the Omaha World Herald and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church at Lynch, member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post #228. He served on the Rural Water District Board, NRD, Niobrara Valley Hospital Board, the RC & D Board and the Mullen Township Board. He is survived by his wife, Marvene; daughters, Sherry(Neil)Block and Janeil(Brian)Thompson, all of Omaha and Karlene(Kent)Classen of Spencer, NE; sister, Sharon(Kenny)Bruegman of Bristow, NE; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fay; twin brother, Richard, sister, Mary Kolund and infant sister, JoAnn; and granddaughter, Karlee Rae Classen. To celebrate his life the family will receive friends and family on Saturday, December 19th from 1 PM to 4 PM at the Courtney Farm. A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lynch Community Hall, the Lynch Volunteer Fire Department, the Niobrara Valley Hospital and to the Alzheimer's Association."
