Bio

Death mercifully claimed the life of Modean LaFon Barry on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015. For more than 10 years, she battled a combination of painful diseases and medical conditions. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Modean was born July 24 on a Collin County farm. In 1954 she graduated as valedictorian of Boyd High School in McKinney. She attended the University of Texas. Modean married Bob Barry in 1958. The Barrys and their daughter, Bridget, moved to Fort Worth in 1962. In the 1970s, Modean began working as a volunteer in a series of political campaigns. She served as Tarrant County Headquarters chairwoman for Governor Bill Clements. Modean was Tarrant County chairwoman for Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984. Later she would channel her energy to animal welfare, becoming president of the Humane Society of North Texas. Special thanks to Vitas Hospice nurses at Baylor All Saints Hospital. Modean will be missed by those who knew her and by the hundreds of animals whose lives she saved. Survivors: Husband of 57 years, Bob Barry; daughter, Bridget Thias and husband, Jim; grandsons, Joshua and Christopher Thias; and several nieces. Published in Star-Telegram on Dec. 6, 2015
