Bio
Charles Gabel, age 79, of Osceola passed away at Prairie Meadows Care Center in Omaha. Funeral services will be held Tuesday November 24 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic church in Osceola. Burial will be in Osceola Cemetery. Dubas Funeral Home of Osceola and Stromsburg is in charge of arrangements. He was born in Stromsburg to Engelbert E. and Anna S. (Augustine) Gabel. He attended school in Osceola and later the family moved to Shelby where he graduated from Shelby High school in 1953. On June 12, 1956 he was united in marriage to Mary Jo Rolenc at Ulysses Immaculate Conception church. To this union seven children were born. Charles began farming with his father and continued farming his entire life. His wife Mary Jo passed away in 2007. In July 2013 Charles moved to South Bend to live with his daughter Jolene and her husband Bruce. He lived there until moving to Prairie Meadows Care Center in Omaha in May 2015. He resided there until his passing. In April 2013 he was honored as a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5383. He was one of the original charter members. He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic church and had served on the Shelby Co-Op board. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and camping at Bucktail Lake near Clarks. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother Duane Gabel, one sister Margie Dobesh and son-in-law David Hill.
