MARIETTA -- Services for Herman Alvie Reed, 83, of Leon will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Ed Vinson, Brother Randy Hale and Brother Ronnie Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Leon Cemetery in Leon. Born April 23, 1923, in Leon to James Tilton and Lola Marie Martin Reed, he died Aug. 26, 2006, in the Oklahoma City Veterans Hospital. He married Willie Dean Gipson on Oct. 5, 1946, in Gainesville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers and four sisters. He was a resident of Leon all his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Ribbon with four Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal and Ribbon. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed tending his cattle. He was a retired equipment operator and farmer. Survivors include his wife, Willie Dean Reed of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles Campbell, Marsden Community, Debra and Greg Dollar, Ardmore; one brother and sister-in-law, J. Auston and Maxine Reed, Marietta; five grandchildren, Charla, Michael, Ambi, Rob and Alicia; and three great-grandchildren. Bearers are Don Reed, James Donaghe, Raymond Reed, Garland Gipson, Curtis Gipson and Chris Hartless. Honorary bearers are B.R. Teague, Darrell Reed, Mike Parker, Duane Hicks and all of his nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home.
