Globe Gazette Mason City, Iowa Thursday, 13 November 2008 MILADA M. 'MILLIE' KARABATSOS Rockwell - Milada M. "Millie" Karabatsos, 84, of 609 Southview Drive, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2008) at The Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City with her family at her side. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 302 Elm St., Rockwell, with the Rev. James W. Dubert officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. The Family will greet friends at a public viewing that will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today in the chapel at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Rockwell, where a Scriptural wake service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Further visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Friday in the school chapel. Milada M. Karabatsos was born April 23, 1924, at Prague, Neb., a daughter of Frank and Sophie (Nesladek) Sloup. She was united in marriage to Ted Karabatsos on June 14, 1948, at Prague, Neb. Millie was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Omaha, Neb., and attended St. Mary's College and the University of Nebraska. A elementary school teacher, Millie's first assignment was in a one-room school near Rescue, Neb. She later taught in various communities including Westin and Beatrice, Neb. In 1966, Milada and her husband, Ted, moved to Mason City where she worked at A.C. Nielsen Co. for a short time. In 2006, she moved to Rockwell to live with her daughter. Millie loved to garden. She especially enjoyed collecting rocks and fossils on her many visits to the Big Springs Ranch in Nebraska. An avid crossword puzzle worker, she took very little time to solve cryptoquote puzzles. She is survived by her daughter, Kay (John) Gabriel of Rockwell; son, Steve (Sandy) Karabatsos of Rockwell; grandchildren, Michael Gabriel of Ames, Tony Gabriel of Rockwell, Tom (Sara) Karabatsos of Mason City, Heidi (Ty) Hill of Cedar Rapids, Amy Karabatsos of Rochester, Minn., and Andy Karabatsos of Rochester, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Ceilia, Avery and Jaden, Spencer and Paige; several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, Ted, in 1995, two sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
