Two children, Ray and Laura Ann ----------------------------------------- Floyd VanSlyke Dies in Hospital After Accident Ord Farmer Was Working on Rural Telephone Line Floyd VanSlyke, well known farmer living northeast of Ord, died in the Ord Cooperative hospital Thursday morning. His death was caused by injuries suffered in a fall from a telephone pole, earlier last week. Mr. VanSlyke had served as lineman for the local farm telephone organization since its inception. It was while doing this work that he fell from a pole, suffering severe head injuries. He never regained consciousness after the accident. Floyd Leland VanSlyke, son of Henry and Ann VanSlyke, was born near Ord on June 26, 1900, and passed away on January 11, 1951, at the age of 50 years, 6 months and 16 days. He grew to manhood in Valley county and farmed until the time of his death. He was married in Ord on February 21, 1923 to Elvina Thomsen and two children were born to this union. Floyd served on the rural school board for several years and was repairman for the local farm telephone line since its organization. He is survived by his father, Henry, and step-mother of North Loup, his wife, Elvina; one son, Ray, and one daughter, Laura Ann, all of Ord; also two sisters, Eva Huebner of Lincoln, and Evalene Day of Cotesfield, and many other relatives and friends. His mother, one brother, Arthur, and an infant sister, Maree, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Hastings-Pearson Chapel Saturday afternoon.
