Vlasta Novak Stritecky was born on a homestead near Hamill, SD on June 17, 1912. She was next to the oldest of nine children. In May of 1918, Vlasta moved with her family to a farm northwest of Colome where she attended a rural school near Colome. Her mother passed away in 1928, when Vlasta was 16 years. Vlasta remained with her father and family on the farm. She worked at different jobs to provide for her younger brothers and sisters. On September 17, 1936, Vlasta was united in marriage to Stanley Stritecky. They resided on a farm northeast of Colome and moved to their own farm in 1944. to this union four children were born; Vince, Leonard, Edwin and Jolene. In 1960 the family moved to Colome and Vlasta's husband was employed at the Farmers Cooperative in Dallas, SD. They moved to Dallas in 1966 and her husband retired in 1970 after ten years with the Coop. In 1971 they moved back to Colome. After the death of her husband in November of 1992, Vlasta continued to make her home in Colome until 1998 when she moved into the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center. She is survived by her sons; Leonard of Sundance, WY, Edwin (Stephanie) of Bellingham, WA, her daughter Jolene Ring of Spearfish, SD and a daughter-in-law Darleen Stritecky of Sioux Falls, SD, seven grandchildren; Brian (Sheila) Ring, Lexi (Kevin) Heath, Brent (Karman) Ring, Andrea (Dan) Nelson, Jolene (Tom) Braun, Josh Stritecky and Scott Ehreshmann and 10 great grandchildren; Megan, Erin, Lyndsey, Cordell, Wyatte, Morgan, Jordan, Aspen, Saige and Elise, two sisters; Alyce Evenson of Minneapolis, MN, Violette Swartz of Greenwood, NE and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Stanley, a son Vincent, four brothers; Frank, Jim, Chuck and Joe Novak, two sisters; Agnes Lundquist and Marie Johnson, a great grandson and two nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Mason Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Burial will be in the Colome Cemetery.
