Bio

Gertrude Marie Poessel Hillmann, 94, of East Bernard was born on June 29, 1921 in East Bernard, Texas to William and Annie (Janis) Poessel. She passed away on November 9, 2015. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00pm on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Funeral Services will also be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard on November 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. On January 14, 1941, Gertrude married the lover of her life Lee Arnold Hillmann. Together they travelled the state and country while Lee was in the Army. She held many different jobs in her life but her favorite was raising her children. Gertrude was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was a Prayer Warrior and prayed avidly. For several years, Getrude coordinated Home Ministry serving the shut-in and elderly of Holy Cross Parish. Her prayer book was never far from her side. She was a Lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters Court St. Bernadette #1108 for 67 years. She was also an active member of the Altar Society and KJZT where she recently received her 75 year membership pin. Gertrude’s hobbies included sewing, embroidering, and cross stitching. Getrude loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed cooking especially Sunday lunches at home with family. Her homemade noodles and handmade strudels were a special treat for her family and friends. She also enjoyed welcoming her extended family to visit. Soon her home became the meeting place for relatives. She enjoyed every minute of their company and enjoyed every game of Canasta that they played. Survivors include her children Lee (Sonny) Hillmann, Jr. and wife Patsy of Houston, Bosco Hillmann and wife Mary Ann, Bill Hillmann and wife Dotsy, Agnes Holub and husband Marvin, and Ed Hillmann and wife Sue all of East Bernard. Her grandchildren Shelley Popp and husband Jeff, Calvin Hillmann and wife Donna, Jessica Hammock and husband Caton, all of East Bernard, Kristi Duplichen and husband David of Pearland, Bryan Holub and wife Nicole, Alison Hillmann of Houston, and Amanda Baker and husband John of North Carolina. As well as her great grandchildren, Cody Hillmann, Luke Duplichen, Cadence Hammock, Chase Hilmann, Caylee Hammock, Sydney Duplichen, and Noah Holub. She is survived by her only living and loving sister Tillie Dusek of Wallis. Along with numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, her brothers and sisters, her brothers and sisters-in-law, and her great grandchild Baby Alex Hammock.
