He passed away on October 31, 2015 at the Kansas City Hospice House at Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 73 years, 1 month and 25 days. Dale was the first of four children that would be born in this family. By November of 1944, his parents and their children had returned to, and were living in, their hometown of Fairbury, Nebraska. At was at this time that Dale, Sr., reported for military service. In 1946, following the end of WW II, the family moved to Red Cloud. Dale received his formal education at Red Cloud Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1960. During his High School years, he worked as the assistant to Mildred R. Bennett, one of the founders of the Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial, when the organization was in its formative years. He also worked as a clerk for Norman A. Peirce at the Peirce Grocery Store. Having developed a passionate interest in classical music even before he was a teenager, upon graduation from High School, Dale enrolled at Hastings College where, in 1964, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. He continued his studies, earning his Master's Degree in Music from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Upon completion of his education, Dale's first teaching position was as an instrumental music instructor in the Public School System at Mead, Nebraska. From there, he went on to teach in the public school systems at Omaha and Bellevue. Thereafter, Dale's interest in musical performances led him to a position with Performing Artists Omaha, where he was responsible for obtaining the appearances of the artists who performed there. Some years later, he moved to California, where he worked for the Pasadena Theater organization. From 1979 to 2002, Dale served on the board of directors of Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial & Educational Foundation; and he continued his association with this organization by serving on its Advisory Board until the time of his death. In 1990, Dale moved to Houston, Texas, where he resumed his teaching career. In 1991, in order to be closer to his family, he moved to Overland Park, Kansas; and he taught in school systems in the Kansas city (sic) area, in both Kansas and Missouri, until his retirement in 2010. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his survived by brother Jerry McDole and wife Estela Chan of Red Cloud, sister Irene Andersen and husband Carl of Superior; brother Hayes McDole and wife Lolita of Red Cloud; cousins, 10 nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephew; other relatives and many friends. Dale will be remembered by his family and his for his good-natured and up-beat manner, his compassionate and caring nature, his never-ending desire for learning and for knowledge; and for his habit of "always teaching" others. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 from the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry McDole, Irene Andersen, Hayes McDole, Carl Andersen, Joseph McDole and Kenneth Schoen.
