ELWOOD — Irene G. Weissert, 94, of Elwood died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Elwood Care Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Elwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Fuller officiating. Burial will be at Elwood Cemetery. Elwood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. She was born on June 19, 1921, southwest of Elwood to John and Hilda A. (Pfeiffer) Foss. Irene was confirmed on May 24, 1936, at Salem Lutheran Church of Elwood. She attended Salem Lutheran Parochial School and then graduated from Elwood High School in 1940. She married Mark H. Weissert on Oct. 10, 1943, at Salem Lutheran Church south of Elwood. They made their home on the Weissert homestead where they farmed and ranched. In 1945, they moved four miles west of Elwood. She worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant at Elwood Care Center until 1991. Her husband, Mark, passed away in 1975 and then in 1985 she would move into Elwood. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Elwood and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed being a part of the Royal Neighbors Club, local Card Club, a Sunday school teacher and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed traveling and would take many bus tour trips. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark; son, John; son-in-law, LeRoy Deeter; great-grandson, Izaac Deeter; and brother-in-law, Roland Nitz. She is survived by her sons, Douglas and wife Connie Weissert of Kearney and Matthew Weissert and Scott and wife Lyanne Weissert, all of Elwood; daughter, Karen Deeter of Lincoln; brother, Don and wife Norma Foss of Elwood; sister, Laurine Nitz of Cocoa, Fla.; grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Julie Deeter, Stacie Paul, Alex and Cathy Weissert, Ben and Susie Weissert, Mark and Katy Weissert, Mason Weissert and Molly Weissert; and great-grandchildren, Derek Paul, Andrew Deeter and Lakyn Weissert.
