Bio

Thanks to contributor #46809294 for additional info Carolyn Joyce (Cole) Geiser departed this life on August 5, 2016, at Loveland, Colorado following an accident. Born February 3, 1933, to Roy and Gunhild Cole on a farm in Elim Valley at Callaway, Nebraska, where she had a self-proclaimed idyllic childhood with much love, humor and music in the family. She graduated as Salutatorian from Arnold High School in 1950. Carolyn married Paul G. Geiser on June 19, 1950. The couple made Arnold, NE their home. To this union five children were born: James Joe, who died in infancy; Kathi Anne, Louise Kay, Susan Carol, and Paul S. They divorced in 1965. Carolyn attended North Platte Junior College for two years and moved to Kearney to complete a B.A. degree in 1970. She completed her M.S. degree in Educational Media at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, Colorado, in August of 1977. She was a life-long learner, and once vowed to read every book from A to Z at the Arnold Library, but gave up after hitting some boring ones. Carolyn lived in Superior, Nebraska, where she taught English 9 and was the media specialist for the schools. She moved to Holdrege in 1973, where she was media specialist at the junior high and high school until her retirement in August of 1994. She mentored many, and shared her grit in making it against some big challenges. A proud educator, she felt she had made a difference when a former student shared gratitude for books that she referred him to. She was an active member of the NEA, NSEA, and was president of the local HEA during the 1978 -1979 school year. She was active in the formation of the Nebraska State Recycling Association, and was chairman of the association for a number of years. She served as President of the Holdrege Area Recycling, Inc., from its inception in 1982. Because of her recycling efforts, she was named Woman of the Year by the Holdrege Business and Professional Woman in 1984-85. She also received the Elk’s Distinguished Citizen’s Award in 1986. In 1996 she moved to Loveland, Colorado, where she found a home at the First Baptist Church. Carolyn was an admirable woman of many interests, was adventurous, and loved exploring ideas. She attended elder hostels all over the U.S.A., and made two trips to England. She researched family history, and included this knowledge in her biography titled “My Life Story.” She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Joe; a daughter, Louise Kay; sister, Keo Ray; two brothers, Milan LeRoy Cole and Douglas Dean Cole; and brother-in-law, Bill Smith. She is survived by: two daughters, Kathi Wright of Loveland, Colorado, and Susan (Dennis) Mohn of Sandia Park, New Mexico; a son, Paul (Susan) Geiser of Ft. Collins, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Joseph Wright, Seth Henderson, Ryan Henderson, Joel Henderson, Trevor Sheets, Nikole Kerr, Jeffrey Geiser; four great-grandchildren, Clay, Emma, Grady and Bella Henderson; a sister, Patricia Smith of Murietta, California; a sister-in-law, Betty Cole of Arnold; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, August 9 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 1003 W 6th Street, Loveland, Colorado. Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, Loveland, Colorado is in charge of the arrangments.
