Died-June 2nd, at her home near Burwell, Garfield County, Mrs. Sarah McCord Beat, aged 54 years. The passing away of this noble pioneer woman was brought sorrow to the hearts and homes of many who knew and loved her. She was one of the noble and courageous company of Wisconsin pioneers who came to Hamilton County, in the early seventies and settled on the vast prairie of this new state and who took up the great burden of life among the dangers and trials that beset the early settler. To this family came many and severe trials, but this true wife and mother encountered and endured them all with the sublimity of courage that was the admiration of all her friends. She was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom survive her. About seven years ago the family moved to Garfield County, where Mr. Beat engaged in extensively in stock raising. Her last sickness was dropsy and heart trouble. She was thought to be improving when death came to her suddenly. Her body was brought to Stockham and the funeral was held on Tuesday, June 5th. The services were held at the Presbyterian church, Rev. C. W. Fye preaching the sermon. A very large congregation of friends and neighbors of the deceased were present. Her children were all present except one; her aged father was also present. Interment was made in the Stockham cemetery.
