From "The Republican-Register", Aurora, Nebraska dated Friday, February 15, 1929, Page 5: JAMES BEAT, SR. James Beat, Sr. was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, September 13, 1856, and departed this life February 7, 1929, aged 72 years 4 months and 24 days. He was reared on the home farm and in addition to his early education in the district schools, and his farm experience, he gained a practical knowledge of carpenter work. In the spring of 1877 he came to Hamilton county, Nebr. He continued in the employ of others during the first eight years and then established his home on his own land in Farmers Valley precinct. In Wisconsin, in 1884, Mr. Beat was married to Miss Sarah E. Housel. To this union were born the following children: Mrs. Roy Flickinger of California, James of Stockham, Furman J. and Enos of South Dakota and Harvey, Mrs. Martin Willcock, Mrs. Ray Gellatly, and Ezra all of Stockham, Nebraska. Mr. Beat as a citizen aided in many important enterprises such as the Farmers Elevator Co., at Stockham, and the Stockham State Bank. He was affiliated with the Masonic fraternity and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and was an active member of the Presbyterian church. He leaves a host of friends and neighbors to mourn his departure and share their sympathy with the bereaved family in this their hour of sorrow. Funeral service was conducted in the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. C. R. Koontz, and interment in the Stockham cemetery by the Masonic fraternity. Music was furnished by the male quartet, Messrs. H. U. Wilcox, J. Piggott, G. B. Miles and Will Englehart, Mrs. Miles presiding at the piano. The Pallbearers were Messrs. James Bird, Mark Wilson, Charles Lefever, Sam Kissel, E. R.
