Bio

Stratford Courier February 13, 1908 Obituary Bowman Maria, youngest child of Joseph and Katharine Hardin, was born in Ohio, Sept. 20, 1836 and died Feb. 5, 1908, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 10 days. She went to Missouri with her father when three years of age and when 14 years came to Iowa and has since resided in Hamilton and Webster counties. She was married to William Bowman, also of Ohio, Sept. 30, 1858. To them were born six children, William, who passed away May 20, 1891, at 28 years of age, and the other son died in infancy. Those still living are Mrs. Sarah Cofer of Hackberry, Arizona, Mrs. Minerva Gibbs of Abilene, Texas, Mrs. Elzada Iles of Dayton, Iowa, and Mrs. Cora Soder of Gowrie, Iowa. Deceased was early united with the Christian church and reunited with the same church 15 years ago and still adhered to that faith. After three years of suffering she sank quietly to sleep Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock and passed to God and her reward. In the passing of mother we realize that we have lost a kind and gentle influence. She was a good and true friend. Her greatest characteristic being a great desire to always do something for others. During her last hours she seemed to be enjoying a fore-taste of Heaven. At one time she exclaimed: "How Beautiful They Sing." She lived a long and useful life, and fell gently to sleep to await the resurrection." - Mrs. Elzada Iles. Mrs. Bowman died at the home of her daughter in Gowrie. The remains were brought to Stratford and the funeral services were held at the home of Walter Deck Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.L. DeWitt, pastor of the M.E. church, reached the funeral sermon, using for his text Rev. 21-4, after which her body was laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery. Card of Thanks. We desire to express our heartfelt thanks to those whose sympathy and help were extended to us during the last sad rites of our dear mother. Mrs. Elzada Iles. Mrs. Cora Soder. Unmarked Grave. Likely on William Bowman Lot.
