UNMARKED GRAVE
Stratford Courier October 29, 1908 Mrs. Minerva Gibbs was born in Hamilton County, Iowa, June 13, 1861 and was married to George W. Bentley October 30, 1881. Three children were born to them: Harvey, living at Conroe, Texas; Hallie, who was living with her mother until the time of her mother's death and the second child died in infancy. Her husband died February 9, 1893, after which she moved to Stratford, where she resided for ten years. In early life she with her husband united with the M.E. church of God. On August 24, 1903, she was married to W.L. Gibbs, of Abilene, Texas, the ceremony being performed at the conference at Waterloo. She then accompanied her husband to Abilene, Texas, where they began work together through the publication of Word and Work, a spicy little paper established by Mr. Gibbs some years before. On April 4, 1907, Mr. Gibbs fell dead on the floor while entering his office. Though left alone Mrs. Gibbs continued the publication of the paper until declining health forced her to give it up. Feeling that the mountain air might prove beneficial to her health she started over-land for the mountains, arriving at Hope, New Mexico, where lingering for a few days she fell asleep in Jesus, October 16, 1908. Her daughter, Miss Hallie, was with her during her sickness and after her death accompanied the remains to Stratford, Iowa, where funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery. Card of Thanks We desire to thank our many friends for their kindness and sympathy in the loss of our dear mother and sister. Miss Hallie Bentley Mrs. Elzadie Iles Mrs. Cora Soder
