W. W. Gettys officiating. Burial was in the Burwell cemetery. Josephine Wilcox was born Nov. 16, 1860, in Harden county, Ia., being aged 68 years at the time of death. She married Joseph W. Winans in Iowa November 22, 1874 (she was 14 and he was 26) and lived with her parents and husband in Antelope County, Nebraska. Joseph died in 1892. She was married to Marion Bliss about 1885, and to this union five children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are Mrs. Fannie Swartz, of Cozad, Mrs. Ena Anderson, of Norfolk, and John Bliss, of Olympia, Wash. Mr. Bliss died in 1899. In the early 1900s she married a man by the last name of Smith. One daughter was born to this marriage, Eva. It is unknown what happened to Mr. Smith and how the relationship ended. Either death or divorce. By the time Josephine married David Strain, Eva was using Marion Bliss' last name and no longer the last name Smith. In 1909 she was married to David Strain, who passed away Nov. 1, 1927. A niece, Mrs. W. E. Rice, resides at Burwell. Mrs. Josephine L. Strain, 67, died at the Soldier's Home hospital at 7:30 o'clock Thursday evening, of hardening of the arteries and senility, after more than a year's illness. Mrs. Strain, a resident of Nebraska for forty years, was admitted to membership at Burkett in 1919 from Niobrara, in Knox county. Her husband has preceded her in death. Surviving are two sons, M. I. Strain, White River, S. Dak., A. M. Strain, Canning, S. Dak., and two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Post, Carter, S. Dak., and Mrs. Belle Sawyer, Winner, S. Dak. Arrangements for the funeral are incomplete. --------------------------- Note: David Strain's obituary mentions that he married "Mrs. Josephine Smith".
