Bio

Funeral Services for Mildred Louise Janik, 86, of Wallis, were held at Guardian Angel Church on Friday Sept. 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Thuy Quang Nguyen celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal. She passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, while being hospitalized in Sugarland, TX. Mildred was born July 29, 1929, to Alfonse J. and Mary Stavinoha Melnar of Wallis. She attended Guardian Angel Catholic School, and graduated from Wallis High School in 1947. She married Charley E. Janik on April, 26, 1949, and together celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this past April. Mildred was a long time member of the KJZT, Catholic Daughters, member of the rosary making committee, and the American Legion Auxiliary, where she held numerous officer positions over the years, and was a long time Bingo worker for the American Legion. Mildred retired from the United States Postal Service after over 25 years of dedicated service as a rural route mail carrier. Her hobbies included dancing, flower gardening, listening to and singing Czech heritage and religious tunes, playing card games and dominoes. Mildred is survived by her husband, Charley E. Janik of Wallis, and her two children, Cheryl and husband Jerry Joe Drabek of Hempstead, TX, and Chris and Lora Janik of Cypress, TX. Mildred had 2 loving grandchildren, Rebecca and husband Matthew Waddell of Pearland, TX., and Matthew Janik of Cypress, TX., sisters Georgia Wren of Alvin, TX, and Helen Ondruch and brother Bernard Melnar, both of Wallis. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Alfonse W. Melnar all of Wallis. Pall bearers attending Mildred were Matthew Janik, Jerry Allen Ondruch, Wayne Nowak, Robbie Melnar, Terry Melnar and Matthew Waddell. She was laid to rest with our Lord within the mausoleum at the Guardian Angel Parish Cemetery in Wallis.
