ENNIS - Mr. Emil R. Slovacek Sr., 63, died after a lengthy illness, Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at his home in Dallas surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 12, 1940, in Dallas, the son of Emil A. and Sadie Dusek Slovacek. He was reared in Wall, Texas, where he graduated high school in 1958. He then attended the University of Dallas, where he earned his bachelor in philosophy and master's in religious education. On May 20, 1961, he was married to Angeline Kubin of Ennis. After their marriage, they lived and raised their family in Ennis. Since 1988, they have resided in Dallas. He was employed by National Cash Register in Dallas for more than 20 years. He then became the district manager of the technical department of Foley's, retiring in 1991. In 1974, he was ordained as one of the first deacons in the Catholic Diocese of Dallas. He devoted his life as a deacon to the education and religious grace of the Ferris and Ennis communities. He was instrumental in establishing the Corpus Christi Mission in Ferris, Texas, and is honored by having the Mission's bell named after him, "Emilio." He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and a deacon of St. Jude Chapel in Dallas. He was also active in the Bill W. Organization in Preston Center for 17 years. He is survived by his wife, Angie of Dallas; two daughters, Angeline S. Wingo of Ennis and Sharon and husband, Jeff Kjoller, of Dallas; six sons, Emil R. Slovacek Jr. and wife, Stacy, of Ennis, Frank J. Slovacek of Bucharest, Romania, Thomas A. Slovacek and wife, Carol, of Ennis, Ronald W. Slovacek and wife, Melissa, of Denton, Michael P. Slovacek of Dallas, and Gerald Slovacek and wife, Linda Thurman-Slovacek, of Denton; a sister and her husband, Sadie L. and Bob Liska of Dallas; a brother, Marvin A. Slovacek of Las Vegas, Nev.; and grandchildren, Joshua Abston, Dawn and Jenna Wingo, Kristine, Mathew, Mollie and Bailey Slovacek, Hannah, Paige and Noah Slovacek, Taylor, Dylan and Madeleine Slovacek, Lauren, Sara and Benjamin Kjoller and Allie and Brandon Slovacek. He is also survived by two aunts and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemarie; and his parents, Emil A. and Sadie Dusek Slovacek of San Angelo, Texas. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, in the Keever Chapel in Ennis, Texas. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at St. John Neupomocene Catholic Church in Ennis, Texas, with the Rev. Fred Caldwell as celebrant.
