Marilyn J. Skalak, 80, formerly of Dorchester, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Lincoln. Marilyn was born December 1, 1934, the daughter of Otto and Irene (Nohavec) Fette. Marilyn attended rural school District #19 thru the 8th grade. She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1952 as class Salutatorian. She attended Doane College summer school for three summer sessions and taught at Saline County rural school for 2 ½ years. She married Albin Skalak on May 22, 1954. They had 6 children – Rich, Russ, Robert, Barbara, Kathy and Connie. Marilyn spent many years on the farm south of Dorchester as a housewife and farm helper. She was very proud of her children and found great joy in their inherited love of music. The family, including grandparents, enjoyed the young boys’ involvement with the JKS Band. Marilyn herself enjoyed singing and spent 35 years involved with the Saline County Chorus. They would sing for the residents of nursing homes and for other County events. The high-light of her musical life was being a part of the Skalak Family Band and the making of 2 CD’s of their music. Later in life she enjoyed reading and writing cards and letters to many friends and family. Marilyn is survived by: children, Russ (Debbie) Skalak, Kathy (Jack) Oelschlager, and Connie (Scott) Campbell; grandchildren, Desi Rae (Brandon) Nash, James Oelschlager, Thomas (Lindsay) Oelschlager, Phillip Oelschlager, Skip Skalak, Starla Skalak, Brock Benorden; eight great-grand children; and brother, Harold Fette. She was preceded in death by her husband; newborn twins, Robert and Barbara; grandson Ryan Dean Skalak; and son, Rich Skalak.
