ASHLAND - Walter L. Brown Sr., 86, of Ashland died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at his residence. He was born March 6, 1916, in Glasgow, the son of Frank M. and Mary May Cumby Brown. He married Mable M. Cooper in 1935 in Jacksonville; she died in 1993. A daughter, Mary Frances Brown; and a son, Raymond D. Brown, also preceded him in death. Mr. Brown was employed at Caterpiller in Peoria and later at Adkins Implement in Prentice. He later worked in the laundry department at Jacksonville Developmental Center in Jacksonville until his retirement in 1982. Survivors: a daughter, Phyllis (husband, Bob) Sutphin of Ashland; four sons, Walter Lee (wife, Elizabeth) Brown, Jr., Arthur F. (wife, Marilyn) and William L. Brown, all of Ashland, and Richard A. (wife, Deborah) Brown of Lakeland, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday, Glasgow Cemetery.
