JB Wells passed away on October 15, 1999 at the age of 86. He came to the Rio Grande Valley in 1964. He was a veteran of World War II and was buried with Military Honors, conducted by American Legion Post 205 and V.F.W. Post 2410. JB was a faithful member, along with his wife, of the 8th and Harrison Church of Christ in Harlingen. His family especially remembered fondly his faithfulness during "all of his life" including arrangements to take communion when the family couldn't attend a regular church services due to hunting, fishing and camping trips. He grew up on the high plains of west Texas and remembered picking cotton for 35 cents a hundredweight. He was a good storyteller and loved a good joke, but often couldn't easily tell one, because he was laughing so hard! He'd often crow like a rooster in the morning and taught "Jingle Bells, Shotgun Shells" to three generations of his family. The family remembers his last struggling words, to say his wife Mary's name and the repeated words, "mama, take me" or "mama hold me."
