The Anniston Star Anniston, Alabama, Monday, August 10, 1942 FATHER, CHILDREN DIE Parent's Attempt to Save Children In Flaming Home Futile. FOLEY, Ala., Aug. 10 (AP) ~ A young Baldwin County farmer and his two children were burned fatally yesterday at their home near Summerdale. Charles Gulledge, so neighbors said, rushed into the blazing house to rescue Roland, 5, and Sharon, 2. He came out with the children, but too late. Mrs. Gulledge was not burned.
