Bio

Anna Agnes Willenborg married Robert Andrew David, Jr on 3 Oct 1936. Eleven children. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Anna Agnes Willenborg was born at home on August 17, 1913, in West, McLennan County, Texas, the daughter of Frederich Louis Willenborg and Anna Bernardine Deiterman. She was delivered by her grandmother, Josephine (Hatke) Deiterman, who was a midwife. She was baptized on August 21, 1913 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, West, Texas. Her sponsors were her uncle and aunt, Frank Joseph and Anna Agnes (Willenborg) Vrba. Anna's dad, Fred L. Willenborg, was a carpenter. He had learned the trade from his grandfather, Theodore Pruemer. In addition to his carpentry work he was also the County Commissioner in Precinct 3. Anna's family lived in West until 1918, and then they moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, after oil had been discovered there. Her father knew his carpentry skills would be in demand to build houses for the oil field workers. The boxcar with all their belongings arrived in that city on New Years Day 1918. Anna attended school at the Academy of St. Mary Immaculate. The street car came right up to their home and passed in front of the school, so transportation to school was not a problem. The fare was 5 cents. After Anna finished high school, she went to work in a floral shop designing and making floral arrangements. She also helped the owner make collections of past due accounts. Her next job was with the Texas Employment Agency as a file clerk. Her family lived in Wichita Falls until her father became ill and they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado for his health. They felt the mountain air could help cure his ailments. Anna had met Robert Andrew David, Jr. in Wichita Falls. They were encouraged to move to Colorado Springs for job opportunities. Anna and Robert were married on October 3, 1936, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Colorado Springs, Colorado by Rev. John Scannell. Anna's father's health continued to decline and he died at St. Francis Hospital on May 12, 1937. Shortly after that, Ann's mother moved back to Wichita Falls. Robert and Anna lived in Colorado Springs for another year until their first child, Robert Jr., was born in August of 1937. Anna thought the climate was too cold and they were too far from family, so they moved back to Wichita Falls where their other 10 children were born. When the children were all old enough to go to school, Anna took a job at Wyatts Cafeteria until it closed after about two years. Anna had developed a knack for writing poetry. She is said to have written reams of poetry about her daily life, her feelings and her children. Following is one of her many poems. A Fisherman's Prayer When my last line is cast And my life boat begins to leak, Pray that the greatest fisherman of all Will deem me big enough to keep.
