(CORRECTED - year of birth) Obit-Gonzales Inquirer April 3, 1959 Boyce Penrod Dies In Houston Friday After Long Illness Boyce Penrod, long time resident of business man of Gonzales, died in the M. D. Anderson hospital in Houston at 4:50 p.m. Friday following a long illness. He had been undergoing treatment in the hospital for the past eight days. Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday from Seydler Funeral home with burial to follow in the Masonic cemetery. Dr. James Parker of Houston, and the Rev. Claude F. O'Neall, pastor of the Waelder Baptist church will conduct the last rites and Mrs. Carlos C. Smith will sing a solo. Mr. Penrod was born December 31, 1888, at Ennis, to Dr. W. K. Penrod and Mary Frances Aycock Penrod, natives of the state of Kentucky. His father served for many years as pastor of the First Baptist church of Gonzales. On May 11, 1913, he and Miss Allie Mai Lewis were married and have lived in Gonzales since the year 1916. He had been a life member of the Baptist church, and had served as secretary of the Gonzales Independent school board since 1922, resigning in 1957 because of I'll health. He was also a member of the Gonzales Masonic lodge. Supt. A. O. Bird stated Mr. Penrod, in his service to the school board for well over 30 years, was exceptionally well informed on matters of school law, particularly pertaining to those on school finances. An accountant, he had attended Baylor University and had also been employed with the Old Dilworth bank. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Vackar, Gonzales; two sons, W. K. Penrod of Houston; and Sheldon Penrod of Portland. One son, Boyce, Jr., was killed during World War II. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. J. M. Thornton, this city; and five grandchildren.
