Bio
Bruce Myron Merritt was born July 4, 1931 in Valparaiso, Neb. to George and Ethel (Lambert) Merritt. He passed away Oct. 9, 2011 in Tillamook at age 80. On June 6, 1952 in Nebraska, Bruce married Anna Mae Davis. He served in the Army Artillery and was honorably discharged in 1959. Bruce owned and operated a shake and shingle mill and a driving range for golf on Doughty Road. He had several hobbies, including painting with watercolors and acrylics and creating wall carvings of cedar and cottonwood bark. Bruce also was the co-organizer and participant in the past 10 annual Cape Meares Art Shows as well as in various other shows. Bruce is survived by his companion, Gloria of Tillamook; brothers, Glenn and wife Ella of Bay City, Carl and wife Louise of Loup City, Neb. and Larry and wife Deb of Ogallala, Neb.; his children, Bruce Jr. of Bay City, Charles and wife Bonnie of Bay City, Aprile and husband Steve of Mulino, and Christopher of Bay City; sister-in-law, Eva of Ponder, Texas; brother-in-law, Harold of Cambridge, Neb.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Bruce is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae; brother, Earl Merritt; sister, Velda Fleider; and his son, Dwayne M. Merritt. Graveside services were held Oct. 14 at the Bay City IOOF Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army Food Bank or the Tillamook Hospice Program. Arrangements are in care of Waud’s Funeral Home.
