Bio
Oscar J. Welfel, 88, of Victoria passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015. He was born in Moulton, September 20, 1926 to the late Joe and Louise Stavinoha Welfel. After graduation from Dickson School he joined the United States Army and served his country in the Philippines. He returned and married the love of his life, Helen Culak in 1946. They lived in Yoakum before moving to Victoria in 1947. Oscar retired from Halliburton as a Field Supervisor after 39 years of service. He was proud of his four children, Ron, Kenneth, Carolyn and Calvin. He was a jack of all trades, enjoyed working on Lawnboy lawnmowers and fixing up bicycles. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, VFW, and SPJST. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Stella Neubauer and grandsons, Aaron and Corey Welfel. A Rosary will be recited at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be all grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be all granddaughters.
