Henry “Hank” Polak, 87, of Grand Island died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis. Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of All Faiths Funeral Home, Grand Island. Burial of ashes will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Mr. Polak was born April 5, 1928, in Valley County to Frank and Francis (Lancova) Polak, who immigrated to the U.S. from Prague, Bohemia. He was the fourth of six children. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; daughters, Kathy Gentile and husband, Tim, of Papillion, Marilyn Ray and husband, Joe, of Madison, Darla Hansen and husband, Harry, of Grand Island; a son, Gale of Grand Island; grandchildren, Stephanie and husband, Rich Scott, Nick Gentile, Toni and husband, Rudy Mettler Sr., Joey Ray and wife, Beth; great-grandchildren, Trystan, Emmerson, Rudy Jr., Alexandra, Kaelyn, Kamdyn and Dexter; brother, Jerry Polak, and wife, Ruth, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, Mildred Vasicek of Madison; sister-in-law, Matilda Polak of Ord; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rosie. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe and Frank Polak; sister, Betty Manchester; brothers-in-law, Dick Manchester and Jerry Vasicek; and two infant grandsons. As a child he grew up in Valley County and married Maxine Goehring on Nov. 3, 1950. When first married they lived in Loup County, Ord and Taylor. He and Maxine and family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1956 and then Grand Island in 1972. Hank did farming in the early years but always liked to “tinker” and was a mechanic for several years and then drove a truck until he retired. In his spare time he liked to ride motorcycles, hunt, fish, garden and camp. After retirement, he and Maxine camped with their camper and spent winters in Arizona. In the later years he liked to go to the casinos, still gardened and tinkered as much as he could and spent time spoiling his dog.
