The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, February 24, 1994; pg. 10 Helen A. Janda was born to Joseph and Rose (Heynek) Barta at Spring Ranch, Nebraska, on September 25, 1901, and passed away Sunday, February 13, 1994, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion, Hastings, Nebraska. October 4, 1920, she married George Janda in Louchky (sic). She moved to Hastings from Deweese in 1942. Her husband died April 23, 1987. A homemaker, Helen was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Catholic Daughters and Royal Neighbors. Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Zanini of Pueblo, Colorado, and Theresa Sloan of Mount Home, Arkansas; one sister, Clara Mazour of Nelson; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Rosary for Helen Janda was Wednesday, February 16, at Butler-Volland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John J. McCabe officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Dennis Mullen and Phyllis Hawes. Pallbearers were Joe Zanini Jr., Jack Hlavac, Dan Johnson, John Zanini, Justus Dobesh and Robert Janda. Honorary pallbearers were Ted Morgan, Bill Marsh and Ira Marsh. Burial was in Parkview Cemetery.
