Edith Stengel Edith F. Stengel, 83, died December 2, 1991 at the Granite Falls Hospital. Services were held on Thursday, December 5 at the United Methodist Church in Wood Lake with Pastor Jim Crecelius officiating. Janette Frank was the organist, and RaNae Thompson was the soloist. Burial was in the Marshall Cemetery at Marshall. Casket bearers include Gary Anderson, John Brockman, Steve Brockman, Denton Erikson, Brian Gniffke and Arlan Gustafson. Edith Frances Okrina Stengel was born October 13, 1908 in Stanley Township, Marshall, to Frank and Tressia Sanderson Okrina. She attended Stanley Township Country School and high school in Marshall. Edith went on to Teachers College in Tracy, and graduated in 1929. Her 18 year career began in 1930, teaching in Lyon and Yellow Medicine counties. Amiel Stengel and Edith were married in 1933, and they lived on a farm near Marshall. Their son Loren Stengel was born in 1934. They moved to a farm near Hanley Falls in 1943. Edith resided on this farm, keeping a keen eye on the crops, working in the garden, and enjoying her flowers. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church. She served on many boards and committees in the former Cottonwood Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Amiel, her parents, two brothers, a sister, and one grandchild. She is survived by her son Loren and his wife Kathy; two sisters, Mae Stengel of Beresford, SD, and Eva Champion of Lyons, NY; three brothers, Floyd of Minneota, Franklin of Cottonwood, and Elmer of Minneota; four grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
