Stella was born on April 27, 1913 Rising Star, TX to Henry Edward and Wanita “Neatie” Ann (Taylor) Trammel. She was always a fighter, always standing up for herself and others. A fierce defender of her family, she was a good wife and mother. A hard worker, Stella taught her children young about the value and reward of hard work, often taking them to the fields with her and allowing them to see her work just as hard as any man. She also worked at CRMC, Turner’s Nursing Home and Hargrave Laundry. Stella was a frugal and crafty woman who could make clothes just from looking at a picture and that could stretch even the smallest budgets and pantries to feed the masses. A homemaker, her ability to cook well on what they had is something her family remembers fondly, and she especially loved cooking things from her garden. Above all else, Stella loved her family, and all members were looked at the same in her eyes, whether you were born into or married into their family unit. She loved equally, and her beautiful blue eyes and smile would light up the room when family came to visit. Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Lee Mahan, Sr., her parents, son-in-law Neal Scott, brother-in-law W.C. Mahan, grandson Michael Kuhns, and siblings Margaret Ravell Welch, W.B. Trammel, Odessa Lorene Trammel, Andrew Trammel, C.O. Trammel, Jimmie Trammel, and twin sister Ella Maw Wood. Survivors include 4 daughters, Peggy Norman and husband, Jack of Fargo, OK, Margaret Bloodworth and husband, D.A. of Henrietta, TX, Carol Scott of Childress, and Lillie Campbell and husband, Wayne of Wichita Falls; 3 sons, Archie Mahan Jr. and wife, Charlette of Childress, Orville Mahan and wife, Jeannie of Loveland, CO, and Gary Mahan and wife, LuAnn of Wichita Falls; 1 sister, Laverta “Tink” Mahan of Stephenville; 28 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; numerous extended family and friends.
