Thanks to contributor #48796369 Clara E. Allan, 89, of Wood River died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center in Wood River. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Cairo United Methodist Church in Cairo. The Rev. David Masten will officiate. Burial will be at the Cameron Cemetery south of Cairo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Apfel Funeral Home in Cairo. Mrs. Allan was born July 31, 1912, at Seneca to Niels and Emma (Olson) Nielsen. She attended Litchfield Schools. After her schooling she spent time caring for elderly people. She also worked at the Cornhusker Ordnance Plant. She married Lue James Allan on June 1, 1944. The couple lived north of Wood River until 1975 when they moved to Cairo. She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and making quilts. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lue Jr. and Margaret Allan of Grand Island and John and Connie Allan of Kearney; one daughter and son-in-law, Merna and Paul Wold of Dannebrog; one sister, Ollie Hanson of Scotia; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Kramer, Dorothy Feldman and Anna Olmstead; and two brothers, Harold and Orville Nielsen. The Grand Island Independent, Febr. 14, 2002
