Rosary service for Johnny Bernard Melcher, 74, of Slaton will be 7:30 p.m. tonight, Aug. 26, 2005, at Englunds Chapel with Deacon Darris Linder officiating. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Interment will be at Slaton's Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Mr. Melcher passed from this life Thursday, Aug. 25. He was born April 13, 1931 in Slaton. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Slaton High School in 1949. On Jan. 2, 1951, Johnny married Margaret Kitten at St. Josephs Catholic Church. He had been a farmer his entire life in the Slaton area. Johnny served as a committeeman on the former A.S.C. office. He was a member and past officer of St. Josephs Knights of Columbus and St. Josephs Parrish council and school board. Johnny B. was preceded in death by his parents, C.J. and Rudolfina Melcher, Sr.; and brothers, Rudolf, Jerry and Louie Melcher. His survivors include his wife, Margaret; sons, David Melcher and wife Brenda, Troy Melcher and wife Michelle, all of Lubbock, and Les Melcher and wife Dianne of Dallas; daughter, Darla Voigt and husband Van; brothers, C.J. of Slaton, Frank of Brownfield and Joe of Dallas; and sister, Mary Jenkins of Lubbock; and grandchildren, Jayson Melcher and wife Danna, and Brian and Melissa Melcher, all of Dallas, Brad, Blake and Megan Melcher of Lubbock, and Kyle Voigt of Slaton; and two step-grandchildren, Talaska and Tiffany Kirby of Midland.
