Bio

Sgt US Army - World War II Phillip A. Borden was born on October 13, 1920 in Kentucky. Loving husband of Betty for over 68 years. He treated her like a priceless treasure until his last breath. He was the father of Barbara (Larry), Twins Debbi (Karl), Patti (Herb), Matt (Kathy), Twins Raymond (Anna) and Mark (Sheri). Twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Phil and Betty met during World War II in London, England, they only saw each other a few times before he was shipped back to the U.S. at the end of the war. He asked her to come with him but she couldn’t leave her family. His persistence paid off when she finally accepted his invitation to come to America. They were married on January 13th 1947. They held hands and showed their affection to each other right up to the end. Even when he couldn’t speak you could see him mouth the words “I love you” to the love of his life. Phil lived a long and fruitful life. He served his country honorably in World War II. He held various government jobs and owned Borden’s Tax Service until he retired at the age of 92. Together Phil and Betty kept a beautiful garden full of flowers. In the later years they would spend time on their patio enjoying each other and the beautiful surroundings. He was a man of integrity, was non-judgmental and had great respect for others. He was proud of where he came from and enjoyed telling stories of his life experiences. He was a snappy dresser and would usually be seen in a suit and tie but his signature accessory was a hat. He loved his hat collection and was unrecognizable when he didn’t have one on. He was a great father to his sox children but was most admired for how he protected, cherished and cared for his beautiful wife.
